TELLER EDUCATION VISION Our Vision for the FutureOur conservation education vision is simple...to utilize The Teller's 1,200 acre conservation property in a way that inspires a deeper connection to the land, the water and the wildlife so that others may follow in the footsteps of Otto Teller. We will fulfill our mission and this vision through the development of an innovative program. We will continue to partner with other conservation and service organizations to implement educational opportunities, youth hunter mentoring and private lands programs that benefit fish and wildlife habitat and teach conservation, as well as offer opportunities for school students and teachers. The Teller Education Vision Our Vision for the Future - There is a saying, "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime." At The Teller, we believe our calling is to teach individuals to participate in a lifetime of conservation by engaging in hands-on activities that connect them to the land and wildlife. We must inspire the students who visit The Teller into conservation action...today and tomorrow. We plan to do this through an entrepreneurial approach, modeling new conservation education programs and fun outdoor activities for young and old alike as a cornerstone of our mission. We believe the Conservation Education Program can be developed much like our farming program... Preparing the Soil - The Teller and its 1,200 acre property must be cared for (stewardship) and properly managed to insure the students who visit our outdoor classroom fit within the landscape and do not compromise the fish and wildlife resource we have been charged with conserving. Planting the Conservation Seed - Teller will appeal to and attract a large and diverse audience through the construction of a state-of-the-art facility where thousands of visitors will be exposed to natural history displays, video programs, management techniques, and creative presentations on conservation topics. Just add Water - From fourth graders pulling weeds on The Teller to private land owners participating in on-site workshops, we will use our property wisely to educate small numbers of students on specific techniques relating to wildlife friendly farming practices, weed management, wetland and riparian restoration and other important conservation practices. Cultivating a lifetime of learning through recreation - Alongside traditional place-based education programs, teaching a diversity of students how to hunt, fish and enjoy other wildlife experiences will insure a lifetime of participation in conservation activities. As Jacques Cousteau once said, "People protect that which they love." We want to teach our students to "fish" and be conservationists for a lifetime. Harvesting Conservationists for the future - "Teller is harnessing its heritage to grow its Legacy." Our education vision is simple...to utilize The Teller's 1,200 acre conservation property in a way that inspires a deep connection to the land, the water and the wildlife so that others may follow in the footsteps of Otto Teller and take "action" into future conservation activities. The Teller Conservation Education plan is under development in 2009 and 2010. Check back for updates! Back to top |
