Sam R. Lawry, Director of Conservation and Education Programs
Sam Lawry grew up in Northern California and attended Humboldt State University, where he received a B.S. in Wildlife Management in 1981. Following graduation, he worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D.C. and in California. In 1984, Sam joined the Arizona Game and Fish Department, where he held several positions during his 21 year career, including District Wildlife Manager, Field Supervisor, and State Migratory Game Bird Supervisor. While working for AZ GFD, Sam served on the Pacific Flyway Council’s Technical Committee and as Chairman of the staff of the North American Wetland Council. After retiring from AZ GFD in 2004, he served as the Assistant Coordinator and Coordinator for the Intermountain West Joint Venture, which assists partners in 11 western states in bird habitat conservation. Sam joined The Teller staff in 2006, and continues to use his experience to further wildlife conservation in the Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana.
In his spare time, Sam enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor pursuits and spending time with his wife Gwen, and four daughters. |
