Earth Day Open House and Property Tours at The Teller

In celebration of Earth Day, The Teller opened its gates to the public for sightseeing and wildlife viewing bus tours on the main property on Saturday, April 24, 2010. Each tour lasted approximately 50 minutes and included a short walk to see additional Teller projects and wildlife. The tours highlighted existing wildlife habitat enhancement projects, such as restored streams, wetlands and riparian habitats. Sam Lawry, Director of Conservation Programs, led the tours and explained ongoing management techniques for wildlife, including wildlife-friendly farming. "We really enjoyed the tour and gained a lot of information and insight into the workings of The Teller.  Sam made it very interesting.  It was great to see all the wildlife activity and improvements in the area," said Colleen Hoffman, a tour participant. Thank you to the volunteers who came out and helped at the event! For a chance to tour this same route, contact Lauren Ghiloni about volunteering at Teller, 961-3507 or Lauren@tellerwildlife.org.

4th Annual Earth Day Celebration

On Saturday, April 18th nearly 90 volunteers attended The Teller's 2009 Earth Day Celebration. The volunteers divided into groups to accomplish 5 different stewardship projects on the property. The projects consisted of a Bluebird Box Installation, Teller Trail Clean up, Landscape Maintenance at the Quast office, Houndstongue Weed Removal and Aspen Exclosure Set up. After successfully completing the projects, the volunteers returned to a complimentary chili lunch prepared and served by Teller volunteers.  Following lunch, Dick and Judy Estler were awarded the 2008 Volunteers of the Year and Vince Yannone, a retired biologist and educator from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, gave an exciting and educational Montana wildlife presentation using live birds. The event was an outstanding success for The Teller, and with sincere gratitude we thank all of the volunteers, organizations and businesses who gave their generous support!

Earth Day and 20th Anniversary Celebration 2008

Thank you to all of the 100 volunteers, attendees and donors who contributed to our wonderful Earth Day and 20th Anniversary celebration! The day began with 5 volunteer stewardship projects and a hearty lunch, followed by our 20th Anniversary Celebration thanking our founders, Otto and Anne Teller, and honoring past and present board members. The 2007 Volunteer of the Year Award was given to a most deserving couple, Cliff and JoAnne Gibbons, and we also recognized our future, the young conservationists. Matt Parker of Hellgate High School educated us all about his project on osprey and baling twine, and Kate Davis of Raptors of the Rockies gave a special presentation to wrap up the day.

Volunteer Stewardship Projects: Thanks to the hard work of 85 volunteers we have 600 new trees in our riparian exclosure, carex plants along our new wetlands, old fence posts for bird perching, a clean lawn with flowers, and a lot less houndstongue weed to spread!
