Deer Exclosures
Aspen Exclosure
Regrowth and regeneration of Aspen is lacking on The Teller due to disease and over-browsing by Whitetailed Deer. Where existing colonies of Aspens are in less than healthy conditions, removing unheathly trees and letting small ones grow is necessary. In April 2009, during The Teller's Earth Day Celebration, 15 volunteers helped erect the Aspen Exclosure fence as our first step towards regeneration of the Aspens. Not only will the project benefit the Aspens and riparian vegetation, but a host of neo-tropical songbirds that migrate through Montana and depend on healthy riparian systems. To see the difference 3 months has made see below. Look at that Aspen and Snowbeerry growth!

Willow Exclosures
Volunteers
completed a number of willow exclosures on the spring ditch of Teller’s main
property. These exclosures help keep deer from eating and destroying the important willows. This project, which
restored nearly five acres of riparian habitat, served as a “match” to
leverage federal dollars from the 2010 North American Wetlands
Conservation Act Grant.
