BIRD HUNTING

Waterfowl Hunting Dates: October 3, 2009 - January 8, 2010
(subject to Federal and State regulation adoption)

Pheasant Hunting Dates: October 10, 2009 - December 31, 2009
(October 10th is open to youth pheasant hunters only)

How To Request a Teller Bird Hunting Reservation:

1) The Teller provides hunting opportunities through the MT FWP Block Management Program.  Opportunities are offered to the public at no charge.  For information about hunting the MT FWP Block Management areas for waterfowl and pheasant, call the MT FWP Office in Missoula at (406) 542-5500.

2) Registered Teller volunteers are provided an opportunity to apply for limited bird hunting slots on The Teller. All applications must be received at the Teller Office by August 30, 2009. Applications are available here or at the Teller Office, 1288 Eastside Highway, Corvallis, MT 59828.

1. Reservations are required for bird hunting at Teller. Public hunting opportunities take place in designated areas only - please refer to the 2009 map.

2. Upon arrival, all hunters must register at the check-in station (inside Main Gate) and sign the Teller Liability Release Form (one time annually). Please leave these signed sheets in the box. All hunters must sign out and record harvest on the roster located at the check-in station.

3. Bird hunting is allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays only.

4. All bird hunting must be completed by 12:00 noon.

5. Volunteer hunters are limited to two bird hunting reservation dates on The Teller per season.

6. One retrieving dog required per hunting party.

7. Non-lead shot required for all bird hunting.

8. Hunters must pick up their spent shotgun shells and trash.

9. No cleaning of birds at blinds or on Teller property.

10. No hunting of grouse or partridge allowed.

11. Driving allowed on main gravel road only. Park in the designated parking areas only, as shown on map. All parking areas are clearly signed.

12. Please help Teller prevent the spread of noxious weeds. When you pull weed seeds from your dog or hunting gear, use the cans located in the blinds to dispose of the seeds, or bring a trash bag for seed disposal if you are hunting in the field. Your help with this is sincerely appreciated.

13. Be aware and respectful of the presence of other hunters on Teller-including archery whitetail, pheasant, and waterfowl.

14. Hunters failing to comply with the Teller 2009 Guidelines and all pertinent state and federal regulations will be asked to forfeit their permit and leave the property.

15. NOTE: If you must cancel a hunting reservation, please contact The Teller ASAP. We receive many requests for hunting and make every effort to fill open slots. If a hunter does not show up, and hasn't contacted us, that hunter will not be invited back to hunt Teller in the same season.

Teller Waterfowl Guidelines:  October 3, 2009 to January 8, 2010

1. Waterfowl season, daily and bag limits, license and stamp requirements are the same as federal and state regulations.

2. There are 5 blinds available for waterfowl hunting: North Blind, Tent Blind, Spring Creek Blind, Teal Blind and Mallard Blind (Teller staff will assign blinds to successful applicants).

3. Maximum of 4 people per party allowed in each of the hunting blinds.

4. Hunters must stay within 100 yards of your designated blind to avoid disturbing other hunters. No jump shootings ditches and wetlands going to or returning from the blind.

Teller Pheasant Guidelines:  October 10, 2009 to December 31, 2009

1. License requirements are the same as state regulations.

2. Daily Bag Limit is three rooster pheasants per day. NOTE: One bag limit maximum per hunter per season allowed at Teller.

3. The pheasant hunting areas are clearly marked on the 2009 Bird Hunting map. Hunters must stay in their assigned unit and park in designated area only.

4. Limit 4 people per hunting party, per unit.

5. October 10, 2009 is designated for youth pheasant hunting only. Application information will be provided.
